April Ross
April Ross was one of just a handful of women beach volleyball players who have won medals in more than one Olympics. Alix Klineman is a new Olympian and will join the team in Tokyo. Ross hopes to win the Olympic first gold medal however, she also hopes to win greater. With her age of 39, this may be her final chance to win the gold medal at an Olympics. Her optimism is that she'll be successful in achieving top honours. Ross told NBC Boston that if they perform at their very best, or play a great game her team will be able to win the gold medal. "I'm trying to also try some luck." Ross was born in California in Costa Mesa in 1982. She grew up in Costa Mesa along with her parents and sibling. Ross went on to play in numerous sports at Newport Harbor High School. As a pre-schooler, she competed in basketball, indoor volleyball and track. However, she was a standout during this game. As per her biography in high school, she was a volleyball player as an outside setter (middle blocker) as well as a setter (outside blocker). Her efforts were recognized when she was named 1999 Gatorade's Circle of Champions National players of the year. In 2000, she was recognized as the Orange County Athlete of the Year for volleyball. Ross and Klineman started their relationship in 2017 However, Ross has been a beach star for years before. She actually won several major championships while playing in the past with two different partners. one of which is an icon of volleyball. Jennifer Kessy coached her from 2007 to the year 2013. Alongside Kessy Ross was a force on the international stage, claiming a world title in 2009. They won a Silver Medal in the 2012 Olympic Games held in London. Misty May Treanor and Kerri Jennings, the legend team who took home the Olympic gold medal in 2012 in London, took their opponents to claim the gold medal. Ross Jennings became Walsh Jennings partner in fate when Maytreanor retired. They both went on to take home the bronze beach volleyball trophy at the Rio Olympics 2016. They were joined by Walsh Jennings. Ross competed for USC Trojans in her college prior to becoming a professional. Ross had an impressive run during her time in the college. She was an All-American as well as Pac-10 Freshman of the Year in 2000 as a young freshman. She was also one of the key players in helping the Trojans reach it to the Final Four. Her personal life was tense after a devastating loss in her sophomore, but was still successful in achieving the All-American title. Through her two final seasons with the Trojans team, she led the team to win a national championship every year. In 2003-2004, she was named the best female volleyball player at a collegiate level in the United States through The Honda Sports Award. Ross studied International Relations at USC. Margie Ross, Ross' mother, never had the chance to watch her daughter become a beach volleyball superstar. Ross's mother Margie died in 2001, when Ross was still an USC sophomore. She had breast cancer. She has kept her parents close to her the heart. Margie is an inspiration both on and off at the beach.
