Despacito is a song by Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi, and Daddy Yankee became the song most streamed at the time within less than six months. The single Despacito, a mixture of reggaeton and pop was not only a way to bring new interest to reggaeton but also sparked interest in Latin music. Billboard's Top 100 featured two songs which were Spanish mostly, and four in 2016. But during the peak of the Despacito's popularity in 2017 there were 19 mostly Spanish tracks which made it into the Top 100. And in 2020 the number was 41. Justin Bieber remixed Despacito 2017 as a bilingual rendition. Then, various artists collaborated with Reggaeton stars such as Drake and Bad Bunny with MIA (2018), Madonna and Maluma together with Medellin 2019 The year 2000 saw a number of reggaeton performers were lamenting the genre's direction toward the mainstream but a new generation of performers, including Rauw Alejandro, aimed to keep reggaeton evolving. Incorporating elements of electronic dance music, as well as different styles was an accepted practice.
